Meet the Team
Counseling for children, adults, military families, aging adults, and caregivers in need of additional support online across Washington, DC and Maryland.
Hi, I’m Tamara Hladun. I’m a Clinical Intern who works with children, adults, military families, aging adults, and caregivers in need of additional support who have trouble balancing life impacted by stressful life events and transitions, as well as those facing challenges with adhd, depression, anxiety, grief and loss. My goal is to help you stop feeling overwhelmed and depressed and start facilitating positive change.
I obtained a bachelor’s in psychology from Old Dominion University and I am currently completing a master’s in Clinical Mental Counseling at George Washington University with an expected graduation of December 2021.
My Journey To Becoming a Counselor
,I’m no different from the clients I see, like everyone else I’m human. I’ve been through both wonderful and difficult experiences that have shaped who I am and how I help.
The desire to help others was established at young age and really took root while working in the office of a mental health professional during college. A patient came in smiling ear to ear and full of energy because the night before he was able to sit down and balance his checkbook and pay bills for the first time in a long time. He was excited because as someone with ADHD and previous substance use issues, sitting down to complete such a task had been a challenge for him previously.
The idea that with treatment he saw progress whether it was through direct results, placebo effect or otherwise was exciting to him and to me as well. It planted the seed to become a counselor in order to help someone overcome a stumbling block or face the many challenges of life.
More recently my desire to help others has been driven by my own experience with dealing with the loss of loved ones along with the stress of facing day to day challenges that may lead to anxiety and depression.
Being a counselor is an honor. I love guiding people towards positive changes and witnessing them achieve more fulfilling lives. The most rewarding thing about being a counselor is seeing a person walk away lighter, more free, and excited about their life, which is why I am committed to facilitating positive change.
I Have And Bring Supportive And Encouraging Energy To Sessions
I have a natural ability to:
- Help people identify what they are feeling
- Collaborate with people to set goals and help them reach them
- Be flexible on the path of discovering what’s going on
- Help clients heal their past and manage the present
People who know me often say that I am a good listener who can help people through difficult and stressful times, and I look forward to the opportunity to do the same for you.
Our Sessions Are Focused On You
Our sessions will provide you with a safe space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and goals as well as be understood and heard.
It’s important to me to provide a nonjudgemental space where you can be yourself and ensure that the process is collaborative. There isn’t a “one size fits all” approach to counseling. Our sessions will fit your specific needs and concerns.
As A Counselor, I Embrace The Following Philosophies
- I believe that there is no shame in asking for help
- I believe that therapy should address the person as a whole – their mind, body, and spirit
- I believe that sometimes small steps in the right direction end up being the biggest steps in the end
- I believe that loving and accepting ourselves for who we are, scars and all, is one of the most courageous things we can do
- I believe that marriages become stronger when the parties learn to turn to each other for love and support instead of turning away in anger
