Meet the Team

my story

Kevin Skiles

Offering counseling for tweens, teens, and adults online across Washington, DC, Maryland and Delaware.

Hi, I’m Kevin Skiles. I’m a Clinical Mental Health Intern who works with tweens, teens, and adults who have difficulties communicating in their relationships, difficult childhoods events, navigating life changes, grieving, self-harm, and suicidal ideation.

My goal is to help you stop feeling overwhelmed, loss of control, isolated, anxious, depressed, and lingering negative thoughts while encouraging and empowering real life change.

My Journey To Becoming a Clinical Mental Health Intern

I have experienced struggles in my life where I could have allowed shame and guilt to keep me from happiness and growth. It is from these experiences that I can empathize and meet clients where they are on their journeys.

I would say I am hardwired to help others where I am able to do so. My years as a paramedic reinforced this, bolstered my ability to empathize, and be present for the adverse experiences and crises of others.

My educational struggles started in middle school and continued through high school, to the extent that my GPA was just high enough to allow me to graduate. For many years after, my negative perspective of school tainted my overall perception of education. Addressing my own past and fears enabled me to get here.

My life experiences are what lead me to become the Clinical Mental Health Intern I am today.

Helping People expands my worldview, drives me, and is my purpose in life.

Being a Clinical Mental Health Intern is an honor and humbling experience. I love guiding people toward feeling more positivity and autonomy in their lives. It is a privilege to be an invited guest on their journeys.

The most rewarding thing about being a Clinical Mental Health Intern is hearing and seeing clients as they feel more empowered and hopeful in their approach to experiencing life.

I am committed to encouraging and empowering real life change.

I am genuinely interested in helping others. I bring a calm, empathetic, judgment-free, and open minded presence to sessions

I have a natural ability to:

  • Understand people’s experiences
  • Help people feel comfortable
  • Sense what other people may be thinking and feeling
  • Accept people for who they are and in their current life circumstances

People who know me often say that I am a good listener who can help people feel less vulnerable and more willing to open up about their experiences.

Our Sessions Are Focused On You
Sessions will provide you with the space to be heard, understood, and validated. In feeling safe and comfortable, you’ll be able to be honest and open without feeling judged for expressing the how, what, when, where, and why of where you are.

It’s important to me to listen to client feedback and adapt accordingly, to maximize positive outcomes for my clients.. There isn’t a “one size fits all” approach to counseling. Our sessions will fit your specific needs and concerns.

As a Clinical Mental Health Intern, I embrace the following philosophies:

  • I believe that a safe space lends to trust between client and counselor, allowing for guidance and collaboration in working toward greater happiness and overall well-being.
