Licensed Certified Clinical Social Worker and Therapist

Professional Background

I am a licensed certified clinical social worker and therapist in the State of Maryland. I come to Friends in Transition (FIT) with several years of experience providing therapy and counseling to culturally diverse children, adolescents, adults, and families in New York City.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master’s degree in social work from New York University, and have completed trainings in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Childhood Traumatic Grief. I am also a board certified holistic health coach through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP), which I view as a complement to therapy, given the role of mind-body wellness on wellbeing and vitality.

Clinical Interests

My clinical interests include helping children cope with difficult life events that may lead to emotional and behavioral difficulties, as well as helping them manage the stressors of school, peer relationships, and self-esteem. My work with children involves encouraging their unique development and emotional growth through art and play.

I also work with families going through transitions, adjustments, and conflict. I use family therapy as an opportunity for members to gain insight into the ways they can make conscious positive changes to function again as a cohesive and connected family system.

While I work primarily with children and families, I also help individuals work through depression, anxiety, stress, grief, and trauma. As an individual therapist, I help clients heal from the past, make connections between their emotions, thoughts, and experiences, remove barriers that are no longer serving them, and regain control over their lives.

Therapy Style

I use an empathetic, person-centered, and strengths-based approach to therapy—which means that I work together with you to look at what you are going through in the context of your life. Therapy is a process. And much like healing, change is not always linear. So the process of therapy involves working collaboratively to bring awareness not only to the hardships and struggles that led you, your family, or child to counseling, but the inherent strengths and capabilities that will guide you through it, too.

I prioritize the open and trusting relationship between therapist and client, and believe that clients are truly the experts of their lives. So I seek to ensure that therapy is a warm, nurturing, safe, and non-judgmental environment from which you can feel understood, be heard authentically, and ultimately, experience personal growth.
